I have made my career working with children, first as a nanny then as a physician. Now I must tackle the toughest job of all... Motherhood!
Addressing All of Your Concerns From Medicine to Motherhood
Medication dosages in children are primarily weight based, therefore it is important to have an accurate weight prior to administering any medications.
As your child gets older, note the maximum dosage allowed so that you do not accidentally overdose.
Always contact your child's physician directly if you have any concerns or questions about administering a medications.
I do not recommend giving a child BOTH Tylenol and Ibuprofen at the same time. While some physicians will tell parents to alternate the two, it increases your chances of accidentally overdosing.
Finally, it is very important to look at the ingredients in all medications so that you don't accidentally give a child too much; ie several different over the counter cold medications already contain Acetaminophen (Tylenol).
